A seven-month-old girl was given to a security guard by her grandmother and aunt, who claimed they did not know the baby and had found her abandoned in a shopping trolley outside a supermarket in Yuen Long yesterday.
But a police investigation revealed that they left her in the management centre of Sun Yuen Long Centre in Long Yat Road at 10.30am after failing to find the girl's grandfather in the housing estate.
'They told the guard that they discovered the girl abandoned in the shopping cart with a note written down with the mobile phone numbers of the baby's parents on the fourth-floor car park of the building outside a supermarket,' an officer said.
After handing over the baby the women left before police arrived.
The toddler was taken to Tuen Mun Hospital for examination as officers tried to find her parents. Police said the girl was healthy.
At 3pm, her parents, both 19, arrived at the hospital and collected their daughter.
