Q Do you have a story of the disabled experiencing travel difficulties?
I spoke to a number of disabled students at my school on Kowloon side. They told me that the problem with the buses is that there is a day-to-day schedule for all buses, and the only buses wheelchair-bound students can catch are KMB low-floor buses.
They also find it very inconvenient that they don't know when these buses come, so they often have to wait an hour or more to catch one.
Also, many people using wheelchairs don't know that they can ring to find out when these buses are coming.
The main problem with the MTR is the gap between the platform and the train. Another difficulty is that many old stations have stairs, and no ramps or lifts, for access.
Overall, most students in my class think the public transport system is not satisfactory, particularly for the wheelchair-bound disabled.
