Australian Zara Hannaford, Japanese sisters Kaori and Megumi Hora, British-born Janice Wong Hoi-yan and Hong Kong's Phoebe To Wing-yan make up the funky quintet Odyssey - schoolgirls who are dreaming of fame.

And what is now merely a vision could one day become reality for the group, thanks to the support of the Rockit Youth Programme (RYP).

Two weeks ago Odyssey achieved a breakthrough when they played at the second Rockit music festival in Victoria Park. In the run-up to the show, the band practised at Amnesia Club in Central, under the guidance of Rick Cumes, a professional musician and DJ, and RYP's new director.

'Rick gave us tips on enhancing our stage presence, things like using hand gestures, smiling more, and just making sure you look like you are having fun, even if you are not,' says lead singer Zara.

'When we first started playing, no-one would move. Everyone just froze. Now we are much better. We've got rid of the nervousness and it's more natural. It takes a bit of practice.'
