With myriad full-time, part-time and distance-learning options to choose from, selecting an appropriate postgraduate programme can be daunting. The QS World MBA Tour and QS World Grad School Tour at the Convention and Exhibition Centre next Saturday are designed to make selection easier. Now in its 11th year, the QS World MBA Tour will provide potential students with the chance to meet representatives from about 70 international and local business schools. The two tours, organised by QS Ltd, a London-based international education and careers development company, will also visit Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. The aim of the QS World Grad School Tour is to provide face-to-face contact with admissions staff and international officers from the world's top graduate and postgraduate programmes to help students find a suitable international MA or PhD programme. More than 100 universities and graduate schools from around the world are taking part. The A to Z of postgraduate programmes includes law, social sciences, economics, finance, accounting, management, engineering, technology and topics relevant to Asian careers. According to Tim Rogers, former head of recruitment and admissions at the London School of Economics and now senior consultant to the QS World Grad School Tour, Asia is set to become a major player in international postgraduate education. 'There has been a massive increase in institutions offering master's programmes in the Asia-Pacific region in recent years,' he said. 'The key factors have been the use of English as the basic teaching language and the dramatic rise in academic standards in the entire region. It's created a whole new local market in which students can choose to study in a truly international environment, but much closer to home than has been possible before.' Vincent Lai, director of MBA programmes at Chinese University of Hong Kong, said the MBA Tour would provide a valuable opportunity to meet potential applicants. 'Advertisements in newspapers and the website won't get the job done as well as face-to-face interaction, which creates better networking opportunities,' he said.
