hkust professor receives medal
Irene Lo Man-chi, associate professor at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology's civil engineering department, has been awarded the 2004 J. James Croes Medal for her development of an innovative barrier technology for waste containment. The medal was awarded by the American Society of Civil Engineers, which recognises researchers with meritorious achievements in civil engineering.

The Asian Cultural Council is offering a new scholarship with the support of the Sovereign Art Foundation Fellowship for visual artists to pursue research and studies in the United States between next September and December 2006. City University has appointed Jennifer Ng, the founding principal of HKU Space Community College, as principal of its community college set up in July to offer self-funded programmes.
