TWO estate agents were sentenced to three-month jail terms after being found guilty of trying to cheat a client of $25,000. Cheung Hon-yan, 27, property consultant of Midland Realty (Tsuen Wan) Ltd, and sales manager Chan Cho-shing, 31, were earlier found guilty of having dishonestly tried to obtain the money by falsely representing to Leung Man-wai that the purchaser of his property was a China-backed company whose agent was demanding a commission of $25,000. Western Court was told that Mr Leung entrusted Midland Realty to sell a property in Tuen Mun. Cheung later told Mr Leung he had found a buyer who was offering $2.5 million. When Mr Leung went to Midland's office to sign the provisional sale and purchase agreement, Chan and Cheung told him the buyer's agent was demanding a commission of $25,000 in cash. The defendants were arrested on July 19 after Chan accepted $25,000 cash from Mr Leung.
