Updated at 5.14pm: Customs officers this week have launched operations to stop the production of pirated optical discs and the smuggling of computer hard disks. Special Task Force officers on Tuesday morning raided a pirated optical disc replicating and storage centre at a unit of Well Fung Industrial Centre, Kwai Chung, a spokesman said. The raid came after a week-long investigation, the spokesman added. Officers seized about 100,000 pirated optical discs, six computers and 42 CD/DVD writers, worth $2.54 million. Four women and three men, aged 23 to 46, were arrested. In a separate operation on Monday, officers at Lok Ma Chau Control Point foiled a smuggling case and seized 159 unmanifested computer hard disks with a total estimated value of around $79,000. At 12.24pm on Monday, customs officers intercepted and searched an outgoing car at Lok Ma Chau Control Point. They seized the unmanifested computer hard disks found concealed inside the upholstery of the car. A 44-year-old driver was arrested.
