Police were reluctant to release details last night.
'The police can confirm the smashing of a kidnapping case this morning,' a spokeswoman said. 'The case was reported to us at about 9.20am. We have arrested two people as well as freeing the kidnapped child.'
Sources said the child was a boy and he was not injured in the ordeal. The family of the boy alerted the police after receiving a ransom demand.
Meanwhile, police officers inspected a torched two-door car found in Wu Kau Tang, Sai Kung, which they suspect of being connected to the kidnap.
