For some people, speaking English can be a scary experience.
My school's English Society organised an English Speaking Day on October 29. Students from Forms Four and Six chatted with their juniors in English and gave them stickers as a reward.
I was afraid of talking in my second language with other students. What if I spoke so badly that they didn't understand me? I was worried, so I tried to be well-prepared for the event.
I watched the news on TV the night before and found someone to help me practise my oral English.
It was easier said than done. The preparation was clearly not enough; I could only mutter a few words.
Fortunately, most of the students I chatted with were friendly and patient. None of them teased me. I began to speak with increasing confidence, although I still made mistakes.
I hope to perform better at the next English Speaking Day.
