Antics

(Matador)

New York four-piece Interpol are pretty much the last men standing from the Big Apple's garage rock explosion of 2001.

With The Strokes all but relegated to has-beens following the release of their very poor - and very poor-selling - second effort Room on Fire, and after the Yeah Yeah Yeahs decamped to Los Angeles citing 'personal problems', Messrs Kessler, Dengler, Banks and Fogarino have pressed on to greater heights with a sophomore effort that burnishes the austere chrome of their debut, Turn on the Bright Lights.

Sticking to the same, droning, Joy Division template that made them the darlings of the nu-goth set, Antics sees the band rounding out their sound with more elaborate guitar licks from Daniel Kessler and Carlos Dengler's more adventurous bass lines.
