The Sichuan farmer who gained fame after she told Premier Wen Jiabao of the wages owed to her husband has decided to start a pig farm after a brief spell as a factory manager in Chongqing . Xiong Deming said she would be returning with her husband Li Jianmin, to her home town in Yunyang this week. Ms Xiong became an instant celebrity in October last year when she complained about the back pay owed to her husband to Mr Wen, who was making an inspection trip. Mr Li was paid by nightfall. After the incident, Ms Xiong found 600 migrant workers asking for her help. The constant flow of visitors, plus the jealousy of neighbours, forced the couple to leave the village in March. As a factory manager, Ms Xiong was responsible for ensuring workers wore their safety equipment in accordance with the requirements But in an interview with the Chongqing Times, she admitted she was not used to the work. She said people who had breached the rules would come to her and ask to be excused from paying company fines. She said she would start her own pig farm with the 40,000 yuan she raised in the city, together with a government loan. 'It is much freer as a farmer back home,' said Ms Xiong. 'I am not suitable for managerial jobs. The pressure is just too much.' She said she hoped the number of people asking her for help would be much less than before.
