SCMP Reporter

The Last Breakthrough is a new drama which starts today on TVB Jade at 9.35pm, Monday through Friday. There are 30 episodes. Every Monday, we will publish the synopses of the week's episodes.

Episode 1 (November 15)

Back  in 1996, Tung had just returned to Hong Kong from volunteering work at Life Force Medical Centre, an international rescue organisation in Kenya.

She succeeded in persuading  Fun to go with her. Fun proposed to her  with a custom-made key ring. Unfortunately, she was hit by a car while trying to pick up the key ring that she had accidentally dropped.

Fun was devastated  and decided to fulfil his promise of  working as a medical volunteer in Kenya.

Eight years later, Fun   runs a private clinic, Long Shing Medical Centre,  to help the needy.

Episode 2 (November 16)

Kiu, who resigned from her job after being accused of professional negligence, is at  Ling Siu Hospital for an interview.

She encounters an old man who is feeling ill after the lift has suddenly stopped. Kiu's attentive and caring attitude makes a good impression on Ko and he suggests Sheung hire her.

Fun decides to leave for Kenya. At the Kenyan airport,  he sees Heng  save someone's life and tries to persuade  him to join Life Force, but Heng gives him the cold shoulder.

Episode 3 (November 17)

Heng takes  Fun's backpack by mistake. Luckily he runs into Ching,  who takes him to Life Force. Heng volunteers to help with vaccinating the villagers, but Ching makes a sarcastic remark.

A villager is seriously wounded  in a landmine explosion. Since there are no anaesthetics, Fun has to resort to herbs. Another villager suffers  a cardiac arrest.

Fun walks on thin ice by reviving his heartbeat with a car battery, and miraculously saves

his life.

Episode 4 (November 18)

A tribe in southern Sudan has not shown up for vaccinations. Fun and his team set off to visit the tribe. They get caught  in the midst of a gun battle on their way. To persuade the tribe leader to allow the children to be vaccinated,  Fun drinks poison.

The Last Breakthrough will take a break on November 19 due to the broadcast of the  TVB 37th Anniversary Special. It will return on November 22.
