Loving the tai-tai life

Released in 1993, the Putonghua ballad Don't Ask Me Who I Am by Linda Wong Hing-ping was such an international success that even overseas Chinese teenagers learned how to sing the song in perfect Putonghua, even though they could not understand a word of it.

Having said hasta la vista to showbiz and opting for a more tai-tai lifestyle, Wong did not look a day older than her Don't Ask Me Who I Am CD cover at Kim Robinson's book launch at Lane Crawford IFC on Friday when CitySeen caught up with her. Since she wed businessman Steven Lee, Wong, 36, has been out of the limelight for more than three years.

She tells CitySeen she is not doing too much these days but enjoys playing golf and tennis. 'I play tennis regularly ... and I'm almost a pro-golfer.' Asked if she missed singing, she answered without a flinch, 'Yes, I do.' Wong did not say whether or not she will restart her singing career, but she believes the music industry has changed. 'Artists used to be much more diverse,' she says. 'There was something for every age. Now it seems like they're targeting a very young crowd.'
