THE Housing Authority plans to build a 7,000 square metre shopping centre in Stanley and is seeking applications from large retailers.
The shopping centre is part of the Ma Hang Valley Development, which is expected to be completed by mid-1997.
Chief housing manager for commercial properties Lau Kai-hung said the shopping centre would be the Housing Authority's largest for the next five years.
The authority was looking into requirements of potential major tenants, said Mr Lau.
''The Ma Hang shopping centre will provide large retail space which fits in with the interests of large tenants, such as Yaohan department store. Their opinion and technical requirements are useful in the construction design,'' he said.
The Ma Hang development will be finished in three stages. It will comprise a shopping centre, a public housing estate and a Home Ownership Scheme estate.
