THE POWER BEHIND CLP Power Hong Kong is its people. The company puts its money where its mouth is and in return it expects staff to think out of the box and speak up.
CLP managing director Betty Yuen, a speaker at the Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management conference, said a company's management was only as innovative as its employees.
Innovation is a key factor in a company's success. Inventive products and services keep customers loyal, establish brand quality and reputation, and keep a company one step ahead of its competitors.
How visionary a company is partly depends on its culture and how innovative its employees are.
Mrs Yuen said encouraging staff to be creative and leveraging their imaginative ideas would maximise productivity and ensure quality customer service.
'In a knowledge-based economy, we rely on people and their innovations to stay competitive,' she said.
Mrs Yuen emphasised three key elements of human resources practices, saying a company could successfully fulfil its mission to be a world-class competitor by employing, developing and retaining the right people.
