Comba Telecom Systems, a wireless telecommunications equipment manufacturer in China, is expanding into digital microwave systems in hopes of doubling its potential market.
The company has budgeted US$15 million over two years to develop the digital microwave business, which will complement its line of antennae and repeaters for the mobile phone industry.
It has invested US$7 million in a new Guangzhou factory and a 60 per cent stake in Wavelab Holdings, a company specialising in outdoor microwave systems.
'Before, we focused only on wireless coverage solutions, but we're opening into a whole new branch of products,' chairman and managing director Tony Fok Tung-ling said.
'The market size for microwave systems is even bigger than that for wireless networks.'
Comba is marketing digital microwave systems offering point-to-point transmission speeds of over 32 Mbps to enterprise clients with private networks.
