CitySeen bets there are no iPods out there with a Chinese opera playlist. Those who consider themselves young and hip just can't understand what all that squeaky noise is all about. Just to prove the point, CitySeen stopped a young woman crossing the street with an iPod mini strapped to her belt and asked her if she had any Chinese opera on her device. The response: 'What? Are you kidding me?'

Desperate to preserve the opera culture, the Matilda Child Development Centre has organised an event, euphemistically entitled Canto Opera Unmasked, at the Cultural Centre Grand Theatre tomorrow. Its aim is to help unlock and reveal some cultural secrets of this art form and hope it will help stimulate and raise the level of public interest.

Funds raised will pay for the expansion of the centre. The matinee show (tickets $100 to $200) starts at 2.30pm and evening show ($150 to $1,000) at 7.30pm. Contact 2813 6422 for more information, or visit http://ww.mcdchk.org/opera/unmasked.html
