Updated at 12.13pm: Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Ngau Tau Kok which occurred late on Sunday, resulting in the death of a man, a spokesman said on Monday. Shortly after 10.15pm on Sunday, a car driven by a 41-year-old male driver was travelling westbound along the Kwun Tong Road flyover. When it reached outside Ping Shek Estate, it reportedly hit an 82-year-old man crossing the road. The man received serious head and chest injuries. He was rushed to the United Christian Hospital and was certified dead at 12.38am on Monday, the spokesman said. The Kowloon East special investigation team is appealing to witnesses to contact police on tel: 2305-7500. There were 11,094 traffic accidents which involved casualties in the first three quarters of 2004. The main cause of these accidents was driving too fast, following too close to other vehicles; and vehicles losing control and carelessly changing lanes, police statistics reveal.
