The new Watsons Water Champions Challenge Website offers fans a chance to win free tickets, a tennis racquet signed by Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova and other gifts. Sharapova is the top draw for the January 5 to 8 exhibition tournament at Victoria Park. Tickets go on sale early next month. 'Phones have been ringing hot following her superb win at the season-ending WTA [Women's Tennis Association] Championships,' said co-tournament director Terry Catton. 'Fans have asked where they can get tickets and on what day she is actually coming.' The website - www.watsonswaterchallenge.com - includes a photo gallery featuring Sharapova, a Russian-born teenager who has found stardom following victories in several big tournament this year. The first 1,000 people to log onto the site will win a free cap and a badge. The 17-year-old Florida resident will headline a star-studded field, including four-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams of the United States, world no 1 Amelie Mauresmo of France and US Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia. Sharapova rose to a career-high fourth in the year-end WTA rankings after starting the year at number 32. She finished with a 55-15 match record and her fifth title after defeating Serena Williams 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the final of the WTA Championships in Los Angeles earlier this month. Before that, she won back-to-back tournaments in Asia - the Korean Open and the Japan Open. She became a media star after winning Wimbledon in June and there was fan frenzy during her recent visit to Tokyo. Her first appearance in Hong Kong was two years ago when her world ranking was 186. With four more players still to be named, organisers hope to sign up Li Ting and Sun Tiantian, winners of the mainland's first-ever Olympic tennis gold medal. The eight-player field will take part in singles and doubles competitions. Organisers said they had yet to make a decision on ticket prices, but confirmed that there would be concessions for students.
