What does Lan Kwai Fong have in common with Switzerland? Usually not much, but last weekend 'Sexy Heidi' could be seen roaming around the area as musicians played alpine horns and Zurich bankers sipped light wines from the Upper Rhine.
Swiss Consul-General Francois Barras was also there to outline the similarities between Hong Kong and his homeland.
'We both love efficiency and precision,' said the diplomat, who has spent most of the year he has been stationed here organising the six-month 'Switzerland Greets Hong Kong' promotion.
Last Saturday's festival in Lan Kwai Fong - renamed 'Swiss Kwai Fong' for the event - was just one of the cultural, educational and business-related events to be held under the promotion.
On his dapper suit, Dr Barras wears the Swiss and SAR flags. Both are red and white, but there's also another link - the bauhinia flower featured on the SAR flag was named after a Swiss botanist.
'There are 1,300 Swiss in Hong Kong,' Dr Barras continues. 'Last year, we exported goods and services worth $24 billion to you.'
Much of this trade involved the quality timepieces for which Switzerland is famed, but pharmaceuticals, machinery and food was also on Hong Kong's shopping list of Swiss products.
