If one film defines a decade, then Saturday Night Fever sums up the 70s disco era. Grooving with a 30-member Australian cast, Hong Kong will throb to the Bee Gees' greatest hits in a stage production at the Lyric Theatre, Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, from May 20.
Producer James Cundall said the show had wide appeal. 'We've spent two years planning this. It's a huge tour of an enduring brand. The hits, the explosive disco dancing, the mirror balls and polyester flares are all there, live on stage in a 21/2 hour dance marathon.'
Premiering at the London Palladium six years ago, the multimillion dollar production has been performed around the world. According to Cundall, Hong Kong is the right place to stage the show.
'It is a big, big show,' he says, 'and Hong Kong people love big, big shows. Bee Gees' songs are a staple in every karaoke in Hong Kong, and Saturday Night Fever is like a Bee Gees' concert festival'.
Prices will range between $295 and $695, with student tickets $250 to $295. CitySeen has tickets to give away so stay tuned!
