COMPUTER ASSOCIATES INTERNATIONAL The world's largest enterprise management software supplier has named John Swainson as its new president and chief executive. He will replace Kenneth Cron, who has led Computer Associates since being appointed as interim chief executive in April this year. Mr Cron will continue to lead the company during a four- to six-month transition period. He will also remain as a director of the board after he leaves the chief executive post. Mr Swainson, a 26-year industry and IBM veteran, was also elected to the board of directors. He most recently served as vice-president of IBM's worldwide software sales force. Before that, he was general manager of the Application Integration and Middleware division of IBM's Software Group, a division he started in 1997. PARK ELECTROCHEMICAL The global designer and producer of electronic materials for circuit boards and interconnection systems as appointed Wilson Zhiyu Xia as its director of technology for the Asia-Pacific region. Mr Xia will be responsible for all aspects of Park Electrochemical's technology platform in the region. He has held a number of senior research and development positions in various companies. CONEXANT SYSTEMS The multinational communications semiconductor company has reshuffled its senior management, with the appointment of a new chief operating officer and new general managers for key business units. Lewis Brewster was named executive vice-president and chief operating officer at Conexant. In his new role, he is responsible for the company's operations, sales and product quality. He replaced Michael Powell, who had served as the firm's chief operating officer after the merger between Conexant and Globespan Virata in February this year. Mr Brewster joined Rockwell Semiconductor Systems in 1991, before the firm became Conexant and was spun off by Rockwell International in 1999. Chee Kwan was promoted to vice-president and general manager of Conexant's wireless and networking components products organisation, after a stint as the unit's vice-president of marketing. Akram Atallah was appointed vice-president and general manager of Conexant's broadband/DSL access products business. He was most recently vice-president and general manager of the company's universal and voice access products group. SIGMATEL The analogue and mixed-signal chipmaker has hired Michael Barton as its vice-president of worldwide sales. Mr Barton will manage all of Texas-based SigmaTel's international sales functions, including its distribution networks throughout the Asia-Pacific region, Japan and Europe. With more than 32 years of sales experience in the information technology industry, Mr Barton joins SigmaTel after a five-year stint in a similar worldwide sales role at Pixelwork. TELENITY Raghu Ramanadhan has joined the mobile and internet applications and content services platform supplier as general manager of its new Asia-Pacific operations. Based in Singapore, Mr Ramanadhan is to oversee expansion efforts across the region. This includes setting up a centre of excellence in India and offices in China. He most recently served as director of partner solutions at Oracle.
