Prison inmates to stage show with HK pop stars

Updated at 5.14pm: Prison inmates would stage a show with local pop stars to promote correctional rehabilitation services, a government spokesman said on Thursday.

The show is an attempt to encourage prisoners to learn new skills, pursue creative activities and to avoid re-offending.

Called 'An Unparalleled Show 2004', the performance is organised by the Correctional Services Department (CSD). It will be held at Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Wan Chai at 7.45pm on Friday.

The spokesman said the theme of the show would be 'partnership in rehabilitated services'. It also aims to strengthen co-operation between the community and the CSD to help reduce crime.

The show will feature a Chinese drum show, a lion dance, modern dance, singing, live bands, a fashion show and an orchestral presentation, the spokesman added.

Inmates, who formed the pop band 'Spark', and others from institutions in collaboration with pop stars, including Yumiko Cheng Hei-yi, and Roy Chow Wing-hang, would also perform, he added.

Models will parade in clothes designed by inmates. Doctors will also deliver a presentation to the inmates.
