Trainer Tony Cruz talks with veterinary surgeon Kenneth Lam at trackwork yesterday about his nose injury, which he suffered six days ago after being bashed by robbers at his luxury home. Cruz was back at the track yesterday morning, running his eye over champion galloper Silent Witness and all the other members of his 60-strong team. Cruz had undergone an operation on Wednesday, where surgeons removed a chip of bone from his nose and inserted a metal plate. Cruz, 47, did not attend the race meeting at Happy Valley yesterday but his presence was still felt. He had an unusually light representation with just two runners, but trained one winner when Super Combed ($14) stormed home to land the third race. Cruz said he'd definitely be at Sha Tin this morning, where unbeaten Silent Witness will have an important gallop on his way to defending his $10 million Cathay Pacific International Sprint crown on Sunday.
