Ubisoft's latest saga a visual revelation

Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers, has breathed new life into the adventure games category with the visually awe-inspiring world of Myst IV Revelation.

This new saga, released in September, follows the success of the first trilogy of games in the franchise, which included Myst, Riven and Myst III: Exile. Players are engaged in uncovering the mystery surrounding a little girl's disappearance in this family drama.

Scientist Atrus, his wife Catherine and their daughter Yeesha have made their home in an 'age' called Tomanha. Atrus initially wants the player to help him finalise preparations for a trip to see his villainous sons, Sirrus and Achenar, in the prison world they call home.

Understanding the brothers' evil motives will be the key to the game player's investigation, which will lead to a startling 'revelation'.

The other ages in this adventure are Haven, Spire and Serenia. Each has its own distinct environment and contains puzzles and exclusive bonuses to discover and collect.

Of all the in-game features, I liked the camera functions best since it allowed me to take pictures of places and clues. A three-level hint system was also of great help on some puzzles.

The game's graphics offer real-time depth of field, with moving images overlaid on the scenery. I also liked the music score.

Game play may be dampened by slow video sequences if the 3GB installation is chosen instead of the full 8GB.

Myst IV Revelation also comes with a bonus DVD containing the full version of Myst III: Exile.
