Ensuring safety comes first is the cornerstone of our vision at Cathay Pacific Airways. It is our longstanding goal to attain the highest level of safety and reliability in the industry worldwide.
We do this by adhering to the highest standards of preventive maintenance, reliability management, thorough investigations, quality assurance, regular aircraft and equipment upgrades and the availability of 24-hour support, seven days a week, to respond immediately to any irregularities should they occur.
While the exact causes of the recent incidents remain to be identified through thorough investigations, initial findings indicate that they are unrelated, isolated incidents and bear no implication whatsoever that our maintenance and reliability standards have been compromised.
Our engineering department is working closely with manufacturers and the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department to identify the causes of the incidents. A programme of inspections is already under way to ensure the integrity of the fleet.
We would also like to clarify facts relating to an incident involving flight CX751 from Bangkok to Mumbai on December 1 this year.
Wire reports referring to a 'Cathay Pacific passenger jet's left engine exploded minutes after takeoff from the Thai capital Bangkok' are completely incorrect.
CX751 turned back to Bangkok at 6.57pm after being airborne at 5.58pm. The inner surface of the number one engine left-hand 'D' duct collapsed, causing separation of a section of the duct structure. The proximity of the released material to the engine exhaust may have produced some sparks.
