Police are hunting for a minivan driver who ran off after crashing into a taxi and bus in Yau Ma Tei yesterday.

The white minivan rammed into the back of a taxi that had stopped at the junction of Saigon Street and Nathan Road, around 10am.

The crash sent the taxi into Nathan Road, where it was hit by a double-decker KMB bus, according to police. Officers said the minivan then ploughed into the route 271 bus before it came to a stop.

A police spokesman said the driver of the minivan ran off before policemen arrived. He did not say whether the driver was male or female.

The taxi driver, 51, his woman passenger, 32, and a male passenger on the bus, 27, were injured. They were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment. The bus driver was unhurt.

When police conducted an inquiry at the scene, a male passer-by, 39, approached, shouted at a policeman and punched the officer. He was overpowered and arrested. Last night the suspect was being held for questioning.
