Outstanding French staying filly Vallee Enchantee will sport some unique racehorse apparel when she defends her crown in the $14 million Hong Kong Vase on Sunday. The tiny mare with the big heart wears a nose band with leather tassels dangling from it, and the gear has been approved by Hong Kong Jockey Club stipendiary stewards for wearing on race day. According to the Jockey Club's head veterinarian Keith Watkins, the tassels serve to stop Vallee Enchantee shaking her head excessively - an annoying and potentially dangerous bad habit that a small percentage of thoroughbreds pick up. When she operates at full concentration, Vallee Enchantee is a staying filly to be feared, as her victory under Dominique Boeuf in last year's Vase clearly illustrated. Her rider on Sunday will be champion French jockey Olivier Peslier.
