Assistant accused of lying about qualifications
The former assistant to the boss of cosmetics chain Sa Sa International has been charged with lying to her employer by saying she studied at two universities before taking up the post. Singaporean Pauline Ang Su-wen, 41, appeared in Eastern Court on two charges of deception. She allegedly proffered a fake certificate from the National University of Singapore and deceived her boss into thinking she had studied at the University of California at Berkeley. Ang did not enter a plea. Her case was adjourned to February 2.
Lab technician fined for possessing child porn
A senior laboratory technician of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department was yesterday fined $50,000 for possessing child pornography in his home. Dennis Ng Dean-yew, 46, pleaded guilty in Eastern Court last month to possessing 44 photographs of naked children in erotic poses. The images were in the least serious category of child pornography under the ordinance because they did not depict children engaged in sexual activity.
1,885 red-light jumpers prosecuted
Some 1,885 drivers have been prosecuted for jumping red lights at the notorious junction of Victoria Park Road and Hing Fat Street in Tin Hau in the past 12 months following the installation of a hidden camera, Eastern District transport committee chairman Hui Ka-hoo said. Pedestrians Lee Chun-yee, five, and Cheng Fung-yee, 23, were knocked down and killed at the junction in January last year.
