TV Mart invites you to shop until you drop

Carina Lau

Aiming to change consumer buying habits, Hong Kong's first television shopping channel was launched yesterday.

A 24-hour venture, TV Mart has been created at a cost of $180 million by Japan's Mitsui, Taiwan's TransAsia Airways, Secom and Gold Sun TV.

TV Mart offers products ranging from jewellery to furniture, and promises delivery within 24 hours. It will air on Cable TV channel 25.

TV Mart's chief executive, actress Carina Lau Ka-ling, believes the formula, which has been successful in South Korea, Japan and Taiwan, can win over Hong Kong.

'Hong Kong people are too busy to shop, and even at department stores there are too many things to see,' Lau said.

TV Mart will launch a Putonghua channel in Guangdong in March.
