Credit-card scam costs Jade $30,000
What does one get for being Jade Kwan Sum-yin? For one nefarious criminal, it's not the pretty face or the singer's voice, but rather $30,000. Jade had the money stolen from her in a case of credit card theft, she revealed in a radio interview.
'A hotel employee called me about a dining membership that I had joined with this hotel, and said that the membership was about to expire. The person asked me to confirm my credit card information so that the membership could be renewed, so that's how the information must have leaked out,' she said. Jade grew suspicious after still not receiving a bill from the hotel 10 days later. After some investigation, she found that the employee no longer worked at the hotel. 'I called the employee again, but I couldn't get through anymore,' Jade said.
She cancelled the card immediately, but a Malaysian company had already charged $30,000 to the credit card.
'I've discussed the matter with my mom,' she continued. 'I'll give that employee a chance and try calling again. I'll report the incident to the police only if I still can't reach the person, but there's no way that I'm going to pay that $30,000.'
