Organisers are hoping that a walkathon and a 5km Fun Run in Pak Tam Chung near Sai Kung this Saturday will help raise $1 million for the construction of a school's first building.
The International Christian School (ICS) in Kowloon City will be the beneficiary of this event, which is open to the public. Last year, the event raised $600,000.
'We've never had our own building,' explained Bonnie Poon of ICS. 'Right now our elementary students study in refurnished retail space in a run-down mall in Fo Tan, and secondary students are crammed into a small seminary in Kowloon City.'
The ICS walkathon has become an annual event, but this is the first time the school has organised a fun run. School teams are invited to compete in the 5km race which starts along Pak Tam Road. The race comprises four age categories - under-20, 20-29, 30-39, and 40-plus.
The walk will start from Pak Tam Chung Gate at 2pm, and continue along MacLehose trail.
