Some may have noticed that Hong Kong seemed a little better dressed than usual, as The International Herald Tribune (IHT) hosted its fourth fashion and luxury industry conference at the Grand Hyatt Hotel on December 1-2. A gala reception was held at the Government House, where world-class designers, government officials, prominent business leaders and international celebrities united for a night of top-class fare and champagne. Some were friends, others rivals, while some were both, but everyone seemed to know one another and the atmosphere was like that of an alumni reunion. Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa was all smiles as he played host to guests, including some of the world's most influential and powerful fashion figures such as: Bernard Arnault, chairman of LVMH; Rosita Missoni, founder and designer of Missoni; Umberto Angeloni, chief executive officer of Brioni; Sir Paul Smith, chairman of Paul Smith; Santo Versace, president and CEO of Gianni Versace; Ferruccio Ferragamo, CEO of Salvatore Ferragamo; and Christian Blanckaert, chairman and CEO of Hermes. Suzy Menkes, the conference chairperson and fashion editor of IHT, ensured everything went as smooth as silk. Special guest Canto-pop star Kelly Chen Wai-lam arrived decked head-to-toe in Dior, while international model Ling Tan chose a Louis Vuitton ensemble.
