ACTRESS and former Miss Hong Kong runner-up Dorothy Yu Yee-ha has lost her three-year battle against bone cancer. Yu, who turned 36 on Wednesday, died in St Paul's Hospital late Friday after being admitted more than two weeks ago. Her condition inspired her to help other cancer patients. Hong Kong Cancer Fund chairman Sally Lo described her as a great fighter. ''She never gave up. She was wonderfully courageous - a great inspiration who gave encouragement to other patients.'' Yu was well-known for her appearances on the TVB variety show Enjoy Yourself Tonight. A TVB spokeswoman said yesterday doctors had predicted in July Yu's condition would deteriorate. Yu had also previously received treatment at the Hong Kong Sanatorium. ''As an actress she had a great deal of potential,'' the spokeswoman said. Yu broke into the entertainment business in 1977 after winning beauty pageants. But her career was interrupted when she and fellow members of Enjoy Yourself Tonight were involved in a serious road accident while working in Australia. The accident left Yu unconscious for 26 days with head injuries and a speech impediment. She also received severe facial injuries. In 1990, she was diagnosed as suffering from bone cancer.
