The business administration programme at the University of Science and Technology is the most popular choice among Form Seven students, it has been revealed. More than 3,000 students have put the HKUST programme, offering 449 places, as their top choice in the Band A category, which lists the top three choices in their applications through the Joint University Programmes Admissions System. Under the system, students choose 25 programmes in order of preference. Polytechnic University's accounting programme drew the second largest number of applications, at 2,137. Business studies is the top choice at the University of Hong Kong and Lingnan University, attracting 1,774 and 1,766 applications respectively. At Baptist University and City University, social work is the top choice - 1,347 and 1,899 applications respectively - despite the total availability of only 100 places. Marketing ranked second at both PolyU and CityU, where its flagship creative media course is in third place in terms of the number of applications submitted in the Band A category, at 1,052. At Chinese University, sociology is the top choice with students, while at the Hong Kong Institute of Education, early childhood education is the most popular. Band A applications were up by 25 per cent for the HKIEd.
