SCMP Reporter

The Last Breakthrough is a drama on TVB Jade running from Monday to Friday at 9.35pm. Every Monday, we will publish the synopses of the week's episodes.

Episode 20 (December 13)

Fun discovers that a lot of villagers are not taking their medicine  and not returning for follow-ups. He  suggests an award system to encourage patients to return, but the local doctor objects and insists that health education is more important.

Jing tells Kiu that he would like to stay and  help the villagers. Kiu tells him that  she tried to accept his love, but she can't come to terms with her feelings.

Fun accidentally  sees Kiu's purse which has his name engraved on it.

Episode 21 (December 14)

Sheung is appointed  director of Ling Siu Hospital. He wants to celebrate with Hing, but to his disappointment Hing is having dinner with an old classmate, Brian.

Sheung accuses Hing of having an affair with Brian, and Hing storms out of the flat.  Sheung regrets and brings her flowers to apologise.  On the way he sees Brian and warns him to stay away from his wife.  Hing finds out and is furious. Sheung is shocked when he finds out from Fun that Hing is pregnant.

Episode 22 (December 15)

Fun runs into his mentor Lung, who used to comfort him when Tung died. But Lung now has   Alzheimer's Disease and cannot recognise Fun.  The following day, Lung is hit by a car in front of Fun and Kiu.  Before he dies, he remembers Fun and tells him that  a doctor's duty is to cure and heal.

Episode 23 (December 16)

Heng is diagnosed with liver cancer and asks Ching whether she  ever loved him. For the sake of Yau, who is in love with Heng, Ching  lies and Heng is heartbroken.

The doctors suggest Heng undergo chemotherapy.   On his way out, Heng realises that  Yau  heard everything. He tells Yau that he will fight till the end and asks her not to tell anyone.

Episode 24 (December 17)

Kiu has been  given a full-time job at Life Force and is leaving for Africa.

He wants to have a romantic dinner with Kiu, but  finds out that one of his nurses is eating alone on her birthday and decides to join her.

He lies to Kiu that there was an emergency case at the clinic.  Kiu leaves without saying a word after she learns the truth.
