1995

Study into Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) conducted by a government-appointed consulting firm and release of a consultancy report in April.

The Mandatory Provident Fund Scheme Ordinance  is enacted in August.

1998

The Mandatory Provident Fund Authority (MPFA) is established in September to regulate and monitor the operation of the MPF scheme.

1999

Subsidiary legislation is enacted in May.

2000

The MPFA in January takes over the functions of the Registrar of Occupational Retirement Schemes, which had been operating under the Financial Services Bureau.

The MPF system is launched in December.

2001

The MPF Schemes Operation Review Committee is established in August.

2002

The MPFS (Amendment) Bill 2001 is passed by the Legislative Council in February.

The MPFS (Amendment) Bill 2002 is passed by the Legislative Council in July.

2003

The MPFS (Amendment) (No2) Ordinance 2002 is enacted in February.

2004

The Code on Disclosure for MPF Investment Funds is published by the MPFA in July.
