HIGH society interior designer Simon Jackson hosted a swanky dinner party at Italian eatery Grissini to celebrate his birthday with, he told us, ''a few close friends''. Jackson, who virtually took over the Grand Hyatt restaurant for his bash - the cosily-lit ambience within seductively complementing the harbour lights without - flitted between the tables and gushed ''to borrow the favourite lines of my cousin, Michael, 'I love you all'. '' They came bearing gifts, the most popular being that of David Tang who had commissioned a portrait of Jackson. Although one who knows about these things swore the artist had based his likeness using a picture of Simon taken when he was still a student! The faces being stuffed ever so delicately with pasta around the tables bore familiar names on the Hong Kong social map. Among them Philip and Jennifer Tose, David Davies and fiancee Alison Henry, heavily pregnant Angela Ho and Peter Kjaer, Andrew and Fi-lan Denman, John and Clara Chan, Suzanna Tang, Susan Dedman Fung, Eleanor Shepherd, Gulu Lalvani, Marina Bullivant, Brunella Bighi, Eunice Lam, Alfred Siu, Teresa Lau and Raju Harilela. And a Hong Kong party is worth nothing these days without at least one member of European nobility in attendance. Here we had two: Prince Haik Zahrian of Austria and the Italian Prince Francesco di Ruspoli. At the end the perfect touch. Jackson stood on a chair and sent his guests on their way with a papal blessing executed so deftly that someone suggested he had been taking secret lessons at the Vatican.
