Tung and Hu to meet in Macau

Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa will brief President Hu Jintao on the latest political, economic and social developments in Hong Kong when they meet in Macau on Monday.

It will be the fourth time Mr Tung has met Mr Hu this year. They met five times last year. Mr Tung will lead a Hong Kong delegation to Macau for the inauguration ceremony of the new government of Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau-wah. The ceremony will be presided over by Mr Hu.

Mr Tung will be accompanied by Chief Secretary Donald Tsang Yam-kuen, Financial Secretary Henry Tang Ying-yen, 11 policy secretaries and Commissioner of Police Dick Lee Ming-kwai.

Mr Tung met Mr Hu in Chile last month when they attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation forum summit in Santiago.

Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, a professor with City University's department of public and social administration, said he expected the president to ask Mr Tung about the views of Hong Kong people on methods for selecting the chief executive in 2007 and the Legislative Council in 2008.

The government's taskforce on constitutional development is due to release its fourth report today. It is scheduled to issue a final report, putting forward a mainstream proposal for further consultation, by the middle of next year.
