Media reports say octogenarian to marry student, 28
Octogenarian Nobel laureate Yang Chen-ning has found a new love in his twilight years - a Chaozhou woman 54 years his junior, according to media reports.
Both Professor Yang, 82, who is teaching at Tsinghua University, and his fiancee Weng Fan , 28, a final year masters' student at the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, could not be reached for comment, while officials at both universities asked reporters to respect their privacy.
The pair were engaged in Beijing on November 5, the reports said, and planned to get married next month.
An official from the news office at Tsinghua University said he had heard about the engagement from the media yesterday morning, but was not able to confirm it.
He said it was a personal matter for Professor Yang and both the media and the university should show respect and leave him alone.
