Updated at 2.05pm: The number of people filing for bankruptcy in Hong Kong reached an eight-month high last month, according to latest statistics issued by the Official Receiver's Office. There were 1,126 bankruptcy applications in November. The figure rose 26.4 per cent compared with 891 applications in October. Of these, petitions presented by creditors rose considerably to 332. This was more than double the 142 cases recorded in October, the statistics showed. However, a total of 11,516 people filed for personal bankruptcy between January and last month. This was 44.6 per cent lower than the same period last year. There was also a fall in the number of bankruptcy orders. The figure dropped by 13.6 per cent to 869 cases in November.
