A Beijing official last night saw it fit to comment on the Link Reit controversy, saying he felt 'very uneasy' about the public row surrounding the listing. Yang Wenchang , the Foreign Ministry's commissioner in Hong Kong, said the row about the listing was 'exagerrated'. It is the first time Beijing has commented on the issue. Some parties had tried to create confrontation and conflict over the government's plan to list the Link Reit, Mr Yang said, without naming anyone. The fairness and justice of society would be severely affected if the public polarised political and economic issues, Mr Yang said, adding that this would in turn harm the economy. He said Hong Kong needed to strike a balance between political and economic issues. Mr Yang said the Hong Kong public placed too much emphasis on politics and considered politics and the economy as opposing extremes. He called for effort to be made to correct this attitude.
