The compilation The Good the Bad and the Ugly by local indie label People Mountain People Sea (PMPS) takes you on a musical voyage of synth pop. But the journey has high and low tides. PMPS, under the leadership of alternative icon Anthony Wong Yiu-ming, is a pioneer in experimental electronic music The album features 16 tracks by musicians including At 17, Material Girls, Jason Choi, Arion, Yu Yat-yiu, Gaybird and new duo Pixel Toy. The tracks range from nostalgic folklore to dance music to ambient, but are all united by electronic sound. Female duo At 17's live recording of Three Minutes is a noteworthy piece. Although not without flaws, Eman Lam's refreshing vocals put pop idols who can't sing live to shame. Pixel Toy contribute three pieces to the album. The album's opener Pretty is full of layered beats, samplings and heavy metal guitar riffs. While musically rich, Pixel Toy tend to concentrate too much on technical know-how.
