90,000 expected to ring in New Year at Sha tin party About 90,000 people are expected to ring in 2005 at a free New Year's Eve countdown party in Sha Tin, featuring a variety of entertainment such as a marching band, Sichuan opera and acrobatic performances by the Guangxi Eastern Cultural Art Troupe. The Hong Kong Musical Theatre Federation will also present excerpts from Broadway musicals such as The Phantom of the Opera, Mamma Mia! and Les Miserables. The countdown will be followed by a light show. The event will take place from 8.30pm to 12.30am. 'Trafficker' to be charged over heroin seizure A 59-year-old man arrested on Sunday at KCR's Hunghom station after customs officers found 288 grams of heroin in his backpack will face Kowloon City court today charged with trafficking. Officers later found 98 grams in another backpack, as well as packaging equipment. They said the haul, worth about $130,000, was destined for street-level traffickers in Wan Chai. Blackouts halt lifts and cut off water Blackouts trapped people in lifts in the Mei Foo Sun Chuen estate at Lai Chi Kok and halted water supply to 12 blocks for nearly seven hours.
