A pro-government party which failed to retain any of its seats in the Legco elections in September is preparing for leadership changes after its founding chairman decided not to seek re-election.
Ambrose Lau Hon-chuen, chairman of the Hong Kong Progressive Alliance, did not stand for the central committee at the party's annual general meeting last night.
This means he cannot be re-elected when the central committee chooses the party's chairman and vice-chairmen in the next few weeks.
The likely candidates to succeed Mr Lau are Maria Tam Wai-chu, a Hong Kong deputy to the National People's Congress, and party vice-chairman Charles Yeung Chiu.
