Hapless home-invader picked the wrong family to mess with
A court yesterday heard how an illegal immigrant chose the wrong family to rob in Tuen Mun.
The chopper-wielding burglar was bashed unconscious during a wild brawl where the family pummelled him with a hammer and chairs, and finally pinned him under an old door.
The story unfolded in the Court of First Instance where 22-year-old mainlander Wong Bing was jailed for five years.
He had pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary and assault with intent to rob.
Prosecutor Crystal Chan said that at 3am on May 1, Wong sneaked into the ground floor of a two-storey village house in Wan Shan Road, Tsing Shan Tsuen, and took a chopper from the kitchen.
He woke occupant Chiu Wah-sheung and held the weapon to his throat. When Mr Chiu tried to get up, Wong slashed the left side of his face and demanded money.
After ransacking the premises and finding nothing valuable, he dragged Mr Chiu out of bed and forced him to walk upstairs with him to the second flat.
