Updated at 5.42pm: Hong Kong people are the world's most frequent patrons of fast food restaurants, a global survey released on Thursday showed.
AC Nielsen's latest internet survey revealed that 61 per cent of people in the territory eat at a fast food restaurant at least once a week.
Nearly all Hong Kong respondents - 97 per cent of those surveyed - said they had been to a fast food restaurant.
The consumer survey interviewed more than 14,100 people from 28 countries across the Asia-Pacific region, Europe and the United States. Some 500 people in Hong Kong were polled.
Hong Kong's love of fast food contrasted considerably with the attitudes of Europeans. No European country was in the top 10 global markets for weekly fast food consumption.
While 81 per cent of Europeans never ate fast food for breakfast, 21 per cent of those surveyed in Hong Kong said they did so frequently.
The survey also showed that Hong Kong people visit fast food shops an average of 6.9 times a month. They spend $160 each month in these places.
