Police seek witnesses of elderly man's death in tram accident
Updated at 4.52pm: Police on Thursday are anxious for any information about a tram accident which resulted in the death of an elderly man in Western District on Wednesday.
A police spokesman said the accident occurred shortly before 4.45pm on Wednesday, when a 35-year-old man was driving the tram along Des Voeux Road West.
While the tram was travelling towards the road junction with Western Street, it reportedly knocked down an 89-year-old man who was crossing the road, the spokesman said.
The elderly man received head injuries and was rushed to Queen Mary Hospital. At 8.40pm he was certified dead, the spokesman added.
Investigations by Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Hong Kong Island are proceeding.
