Lawmaker Albert Cheng King-hon is seeking damages from Chinese-language newspaper Ta Kung Pao for libel over an article concerning his trading activities published on Tuesday. A writ was issued yesterday by fellow legislator and lawyer Albert Ho Chun-yan on behalf of Mr Cheng after no response had been received by 5pm on Wednesday from Ta Kung Pao to a request for an apology. Mr Cheng wants the Court of First Instance to issue an injunction against the newspaper, publisher Wang Guohua and Tsang Tak-shing, editor of the page on which the article ran. The injunction restrains the defendants from 'further printing, circulating, distributing or otherwise further publishing any copies of the said libel or any similar words defamatory of the plaintiff'. The defendants have 14 days to respond to the writ.
