Name: Kevin Chu Kam-yin

School: Wah Yan College, Kowloon

Grade: Form Four

Sport: Swimming

Achievements:  Kam-yin, 15, first represented Hong Kong three years ago. Last year, he broke the inter-school Grade B record in the 200 metres freestyle with a time of two minutes, 4.35 seconds.

He set a new mark in the same event this year (two minutes, 1.68 seconds) to win the gold medal.

At the schools interport championships last month, he struck gold in the 200m individual medley. His time of two minutes, 16.42 seconds was a meet record. He also holds the junior record in the 200m backstroke (two minutes, 12.02 seconds).

Soundbite: 'I used to play soccer but I love the feeling of being in the water.  Achieving better results gives me satisfaction and keeps me in the sport,' Kam-yin said.

Interests: Reading and computers. Kam-yin has also represented his school at the  speech festival.

From his coach:  'He is tall and his joints are flexible which gives him an advantage in the water. He's a bit slim at the moment but he will start fitness training soon to strengthen his muscles. He started as a freestyle swimmer but he performed better when he switched to backstroke a few months ago,' Fan Wai-tim said.

Ambitions: Kam-yin's long-term goal is to represent Hong Kong at the Olympics. In the short term, the teenager hopes to achieve 90 marks on the national scoring standard, which will enable him to compete in international events such as the Asian Games and the East Asian Games.
